Jamie Knight’s name might be new to you, but the truth is Ms. Knight is an incredible, multifaceted talent who has been captivating audiences since the ripe old age of five. Hailing from Philadelphia, Jamie began her career on the prestigious precursor to “American Idol,” Ed McMahon’s “Star Search,” where she won the junior vocalist of the year award. Jamie remembers, “Star Search was such an exciting experience for me. It was taped at Disney World, every kids dream!” By eight years old, Jamie had released her first CD titled, “Spotlight,” honoring the great ladies of jazz and had appeared on multiple regional and national television shows, including ABC’s “Good Morning America.” By 10, she was performing on stage at the world famous Apollo Theater and became the youngest artist to ever play at Carnegie Hall where she was the opening act for the “Ladies of Jazz” concert with the late Betty Carter. “Looking back, I now know that both Star Search and Carnegie Hall were once in a lifetime experiences,” she muses. “I'll never forget those moments.” Though Jamie continued to work on her music and songwriting and garner kudos from the local Philly press, including a feature in Philadelphia Magazine’s " 30 greatest under 30 years old", she choose to pursue her other dream of obtaining a college degree. Jamie managed to balance her academic career with her passion and continued to sing, showcasing her electrifying singing style and mastery of jazz, R&B and pop appearing on BET, performing at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City and with the late Grover Washington Jr. and Will Downing, among others. A show with legend Rachael Farrell changed Jamie forever, “Doing a show with Rachel Ferrell was a turning point for me,” she says. “At that time I didn't play the piano yet, but I really looked up to people who could play and sing, especially Rachel Farrell. She told me that if Ii really had a desire to play and sing the more I practiced at it, one day I would sit down and it would all click and it did.” Now Jamie is ready to release her new album, The Secret's Out, in June 2007.The album is 11 original tracks of Jamie at her best and reflects her very positive, personal and heartfelt songwriting style. Stand out tracks include the first single, "Can't Play Me," featuring an intro by Jay-Z, the sweet pop melodies of "Kiss Me," the soulful "The Block," and the very danceable "Stop Traffic" featuring Gillie. "I am really happy with this album," she enthuses. "My music is very autobiographical. Although every song does not represent exactly where I am in my life right now, it definitely represents me." Released by PhillieTown Entertainment, the album was recorded at The Studio in Philadelphia, PA and Chop Shop Studios in Brooklyn, NY. “This album is just a teaspoon full of who I am as an artist,” says Jamie, “and I am really hoping for success with this project so that I can show the world the rest of me.”
