While it starts off as an exciting collection of contemporary country music, the soundtrack to Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector spirals down into a less inspired set of rock and pop classics that may have appeared in the movie but fail to hang together on an album. Perhaps some DJ can find a use for both Blue Öyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper" and Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools" on the same disc, but the reason to care about the collection is Jerome McComb, a newcomer who recalls Colin James with his nostalgic "Love Is Blind," fake record scratches and all. James Otto does fine with his gutsy take on J.J. Cale's "Call Me the Breeze," while more surprising is Sister South's serene version of Spandau Ballet's "True," which is much sweeter than anything that's ever been associated with the king of "Git-R-Done!" Speaking of which, Montgomery Gentry's rocking ode to Larry's catch phrase is just fun enough to make up for the later jumble of rock and whatnot.
