1998年，Underoath成军于泰勒(Dallaas Taylor)卧室中的Underoath(宣誓）乐队，在Takehold旗下先后发行了《Act of Depression》、《Cries of the Past》和2002年的《Changing of the Times》。专辑基本上都是重金属类型的。后来泰勒离队，主唱改为宾赛 张伯伦（Spencer Chamberlain），2004年6月15日发行他们重组后的首张专辑《They're Only Chasing Safety》，专辑中充溢着尖锐凶狠的嚎叫，配上动感流畅的旋律十分富有新意。主唱的变更，无疑是为乐队注入了一股新鲜的血液。Underoathy一夜之间演变为一支时尚抢眼的EMO-CORE，这种音乐在非主流摇滚乐坛中风头正劲，美国人管它叫SCREAMO(嚎叫情绪)。目前，Underoath的成员有 Spencer Chamberlain(歌手，辅助吉他手) Timothy McTague (主吉他手，支持声乐) James Smith(节奏吉他) Christopher Dudley(键盘手与合成) Grant Brandell(贝司吉他) Aaron Gillespie(鼓手和声乐) 随着Underoath这张《Define the Great Line》专辑的发行，Underoath已经成为当今美国新一代最具代表性的金属乐队之一。
