Zé Maurício is a world known percussionist (see him at "Rachel Getting Married" - the movie). Zé has seasoned his skills performing with a large array of artists locally and around the world. He can perform a solo act as well as join an already established band. Also he's very comfortable performing in a duo with a DJ and because he has built a strong relationship in the local musical scene, Zé can put together a band of any size to perform for any event. Social or Corporate. Weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Anniversaries, End-Year Celebrations, Merges Parties, etc. Styles he is well versed on: Brazilian (any), Bluegrass, Christian, Funk, Gospel, Jazz, Latin (strong on Dominican Republic music), Pop, R&B, Reggae, Rock, Soft Rock, and World Music.Since his arrival in New York in 1994, Zé has performed with several bands ranging in musical styles. He is an original member of Beat the Donkey, a percussion ensemble led by Grammy Winner-Cyro Baptista that performs in the U.S., Africa, and Europe. Zé is also a founding member of Choro Ensemble; the only NY based band dedicated exclusively to the classical Brazilian style of music known as “choro.”

With Choro Ensemble, Zé has performed at Carnegie Hall, has toured throughout Brazil, recorded an album with all "choros" by Dom Salvador, and has released two records ("Choro Ensemble", 2002 and "Nosso Tempo", 2006). Zé has also performed with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra on the “Carnival on Broadway - The Music of Brazil” concert series.

Zé recorded with Yo-Yo Ma on his Grammy Winner-CD "Obrigado Brasil", as well as, on a number of film scores, namely "Rio", yet to be released. He has worked with music greats such as Paquito D'Rivera, Nilson Matta, Hélio Alves, Romero Lubambo, Hendrik Meurkens, Seu Jorge, Naná Vasconcelos, Cezar Camargo Mariano, Leny Andrade, Dom Salvador, Ceademon's Call, Dionne Warwick and Harry Belafonte.
