French musician living in China, Djang San (Zhang Si'an) has constructed a musical identity around

improvisation and research. He is one of the first foreigners in China to have attempted the experience

of singing and performing music in Chinese. He is also the first foreigner to extensively compose using

a Chinese instrument, the zhongruan, and the first musician to use it to play jazz. A musician at the

crossroads of cultures, he works everyday at how to express his inner melody, fed as much by his

multiple influences as by his love for Chinese folk, classical, and underground musical culture.
