The first solo album from square-jawed Train singer Pat Monahan doesn't represent that big of a leap from his day job with the multi-platinum coffeehouse rockers. There are soaring melodies, open mic night lyrics, and acoustic guitars around every corner. The major difference comes down to the arrival of the synthetic beats and gospel choirs, courtesy of Madonna/Elton John producer Patrick Leonard, who dutifully revives his '80s sound for the disc to give songs like "Her Eyes" and "Raise Your Hands" a slightly astringent feel.Brandi Carlile joins Monahan on the album's best moment, a lights-down-low ballad called "Pirate on the Run," while Graham Nash sings backup on "Cowboys and Indians," and Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora plays on "Someday."
